Based in Shalford, DSWF’s mission is to Fight, Protect and Engage on behalf of endangered wildlife around the world, particularly Africa and Asia. DSWF ground-based conservation partners, operating on the front line in the fight against wildlife crime, are protecting some of the world’s last wildlife strongholds and pristine wilderness landscapes, as the climate catastrophe escalates. As we witness staggering rates of global biodiversity loss, environmental & wildlife protection has never been more important in safeguarding the future health of our planet.
A practical response to the mass displacement of people across the world due to war and persecution. Resettle@Guildford formed in 2020 as a local group of volunteers (including Rev’d Sarah), supported by Citizens UK, with a mission of resettling a refugee family into a house the group now owns in Guildford, as part of the UK Government’s Community Sponsorship Scheme. The Scheme was established by the UK Government in 2016 at the height of the refugee crisis. It provides a safe and legal route for refugees to escape persecution.
Christopher’s, is a purpose built children’s hospice in Arlington/Peasmarsh, Guildford – first opened in November 2001. EDC gives help to local disabled children who live or are educated in the Guildford area or are under the care of the Royal Surrey County Hospital Children’s Unit. We provide equipment to disabled children to make their lives as full as possible. The equipment usually enables children to live more comfortably, to play in more creative ways, to learn more easily or to enjoy more mobility. A number of Shalford residents help run the charity.
Cherry Trees is a small charity in nearby East Clandon, founded in 1980 providing home-from-home specialist short breaks/respite for children and young adults 0-19 with a range of complex disabilities including learning, physical and sensory requirements. Their families can have a rest knowing their children will be cared for be it for a few hours, weekend or short holiday away.
The Children’s Society is a national charity that runs local projects, helping children and young people when they are at their most vulnerable, and have nowhere left to turn. Pray. Give. Act. St Mary’s supports at our annual Christingle Service and other times during the year.
Christian Aid works with local partners and communities on the ground to fight injustice, respond to humanitarian emergencies, campaign for change and climate crisis injustice, and help people claim the services and rights they are entitled to. St Mary’s supports Christian Aid Week with collections and hopefully soon a Big Brekkie.
