News – St Mary’s Spire
Sadly, we are having to address water leaks into St Mary’s caused by significant cracking and fatigue in the copper cladding of St Mary’s spire and resulting in damage to the internal structure of the spire. After a good deal of thought and advice, a planning application has now been made for the copper cladding (which was added in the 1950s) to be replaced by oak shakes (taking it back to its earlier covering). Due to essential works by Thames Water our car park will be closed to vehicles from 3pm on Sunday 21st June until early October. It will still be possible to walk through the church grounds but we are asking everyone to please keep to the drive/gravel footpath and for cyclists to dismount. Please also keep your dogs on leads. Thank you for your patience while we manage this closure.
The Parish of Shalford & Peasmarsh is now in a time of vacancy between parish priests, but continues with wonderful people and teams in place to lead and serve the parish together.
