PCC Update May 2026
During April we have made good progress following the procedure required to select a new Vicar for St Mary’s and St Michael’s. Our Parish Profile was completed and approved by the Archdeacon and we are now advertising in The Church Times and online. Applications have to be received by 4th May. It is an exciting time for us all and we hope and pray for a Vicar who will integrate well into our village community and who feels God is calling them to do His work in this beautiful Parish of Shalford.
A lot of work on the Vicarage and its garden has been carried out, partly by contractors from the Diocese and partly by volunteers from St Mary’s. Work on the first floor balcony which was unsafe and in need of major repairs along with new railings is now nearing completion. Boundary wall repairs will also be done by the Diocese.
The churchyard has been looking wonderful this Spring and the blossom much admired by passers-by. The various trees we planted in 2022 under the Queen’s Green Canopy scheme are now established and doing well.
Our community activities are still flourishing and the April film “The Choral” drew a large audience to our Village Cinema. We are planning to organize another big Parish Cream Tea in St Mary’s one afternoon during the Summer.
As always, everyone is very welcome to join us at our Services, to pop into St Mary’s for a time of quiet reflection or to come along to one of our activities.
Building repairs update
This picture was taken some time ago when we were investigating the cause and extent of the repairs.
The steeplejack was able to take a good look using ropes. Of course, we will have to use scaffolding for the required repairs.
The Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC) have recommended our proposal for approval. A notice about the repairs is now displayed on notice boards inside and outside the church. We should receive the formal approval known as a faculty by the middle of May.
We are waiting to hear from Guildford Borough Council planning department but our architect has told us that he believes that they will approve now that the DAC has done so.
Three building contractors have quoted for the work and our architects are checking these and asking follow up questions before making a recommendation to us.
